Algo de Experimental Rock como para retorcernos el cerebro a cuerdos y a otros no tanto es lo que nos trae Menomena en este su cuarto album de estudio titulado Mines.

Con sonidos surrealistas desde las guitarras hasta las vocales, pianos armoniosos y una bateria que suena en todo su esplendor, este album es una clara muestra de que la musica experimental no tiene que sonar freak. Menomena deja un sello diferente en cada cancion con ingredientes que la hace sonar unica y sobresaliente de las demas, con letras profundas nunca tontas o aburridas y esos pianos que en ocaciones parencen adueñarse de la melodia al mismo tiempo que una bateria que explota sobresale a lo lejos y cada vez suena mas cerca, solo me queda decir, que buen disco………

Gravenhurst are in fine fettle on The Western Lands, having expanded their sound considerably from their glum folksy beginnings. 'Saints' is a tempered enough beginning, presenting a slowly escalating space rock motif, providing a quietly brooding bedrock for Nick Talbot's soft, echoing vocal. From there on the album quickly accumulates force, with the discordant kraut-ish beginnings of 'She Dances' morphing into an oddly gothic piece of folk rock. 'Hollow Men' is given a further injection of guitar noise, setting power chord riffing and squealing feedback against Talbot's paradoxically calm vocal. After the atmospheric acoustics of the excellent 'Song Among The Pine', recent single 'Trust' provides a happy medium between the band's varying degrees of rock and non-rock, plumping for some pretty top drawer nu-gaze, a theme continued by the scuzzy abrasion of 'Farewell, Farewell'. It's actually quite fatiguing having to mention Kevin Shields in every other record review nowadays, but sure enough, the spirit of My Bloody Valentine haunts much of this record. Who knows when the shoegaze revival is going to collapse in on itself (frankly, I'm hoping for sooner rather than later) but until then The Western Lands lays claim to being one of the finer releases in its canon. Recommended.

Joder, lo que daría por estar ahí. Ya se podrían marcar una gira. Por lo que leo estuvo a la batería Mark Price que debe estar recuperado, ya que se separaron por su síndrome del túnel carpiano.

Ultra Vivid Scene - Joy 1967-1990

Solo conocía UVS de una canción cojonuda que pillé en un recopilatorio, "Mercy Seat", y hoy me ha dado por descargarme algo de esta banda. Me ha molado bastante este disco, y aunque de este grupo siempre he leído referencias de Jesus & Mary Chain, y "Mercy Seat" me recordó a Pale Saints o The House of Love, este disco es bastante limpio y más pop.
